We are very pleased that you are considering continuing your education in Denefield’s Sixth Form. With an increasing focus on education in today’s working climate, qualifications and further education remain high on the agenda for future employers. Keeping this at the forefront of our thinking, our Sixth Form offers a variety of courses enabling students to gain the necessary qualifications for progression to university, further training or their chosen career. With a wide range of courses, from AS/A Level to Level 3 BTEC , we have something to offer students with varying interests.

Academic achievement is fundamentally important to us: we expect all students to be successful in their chosen pursuits and this is reflected in our work based ethos. All students are expected to work hard to achieve their target grades: ‘Failure is not an option!’ All will be supported throughout their studies by teaching staff, academic mentors and the Sixth Form guidance team. To reflect this work based ethos, all students are expected to wear business dress and to undertake their education with a professional and mature approach.

We also recognise the need to develop students as individuals and to keep them informed about progression routes post 18. We are committed to providing all students with comprehensive university guidance and offering careers interviews and advice to enable students to access their preferred careers.

The Sixth Form enjoys a community atmosphere and provides a variety of enrichment activities offering new academic and social experiences. We want to see all our Sixth Formers succeed academically and to develop into responsible, socially aware young adults within the local community.

Our Expectations

Students wishing to apply to the Sixth Form at Denefield School should have a good record of attendance, behaviour and punctuality in addition to meeting the course entry requirements.

We have high expectations of our Sixth Formers and believe that all students who have the correct entry qualifications and who seek advice about which courses to study will, potentially, be very successful individuals. We expect you to work hard and behave as mature individuals, focussed on high achievement.

How to apply to the Sixth Form

Application forms can be obtained from reception or the Sixth Form office. Also, as of now, you can apply for the Sixth Form online using the ‘Apply Now’ link at the top of each page on this website.

When applying look carefully at the entry requirements for each course. For A Level subjects and Level 3 BTEC courses you are required to gain 5 A*-C grades at GCSE, including English Language, and some A Levels require you to gain a grade B at GCSE before you can begin your course. There may also be courses on offer which you have not previously studied; before selecting these find out as much as possible about them by speaking to a member of staff.
